35 Days to Go: Turning 50! 50 GlowTips I’m sharing to Spread the Glow!
35 Days to go until I turn 50! So I’ve decided to share 50 GlowTips to Get Your Glow ON — one per day, in no particular order of importance and just as they come to me…
And here’s #GlowTip 16: Expressing our heartfelt appreciation allows more of the Good Stuff to flow!
Most of us are taught to say Thank You as children. But we aren’t taught to understand what Appreciation really means, or how it feels.
There’s nothing worse than giving something to a child — a compliment, or a present — and having the mother stand there giving orders to “Say Thank You….say Thank You… c’mon what happened to your manners, say Thank You!”, while the child ignores her and you stand there feeling mildly embarrassed (I’m sure it’s worse for the parent!) and admittedly, somewhat irritated.
But being taught to mumble a perfunctory Thank You and expressing genuine, heartfelt appreciation is not the same thing at all!
I’m sure some of you grew up being told by your parents about the “starving children in Africa” when you didn’t want to eat your food. I know that didn’t make me feel very appreciative as a child. I lived in Africa. The starving children were right outside and all around me. So all it did was make me feel horribly guilty! Which is not the same as appreciation at all.
Appreciation is a feeling of gratitude and Joy; it’s UPlifting — for the giver and for the receiver. It’s a positive exchange of energy that makes us all feel good!
And like everything else in our lives, it all starts with the way we feel about ourselves. When we appreciate ourselves, and all that we have to give and share, we respect ourselves, we take care of ourselves, we make the best of ourselves and we give the best of ourselves. We appreciate the value we have to share.
We all thrive on appreciation. Expressing our appreciation always encourages us and allows more of the Good Stuff to flow!
When last did you express your appreciation to someone? We’re very quick to freak out about everything that other people are ‘doing wrong’. But we seldom express our appreciation for everything that they’re doing right!
We wish other people could be ‘more like me’…and we’re quick to point out the differences, which leads to fear and hostility. But when we appreciate all that we have in common, we’ll find a lot more similarities, than differences.
It’s impossible to complain about what we don’t have and what we think we’re missing, when we’re appreciating and enjoying all the Good Stuff we do have!
Gratitude and appreciation always raises our vibration!
The fastest way to shift out of fear, anger, irritation and confrontation — is to shift into Appreciation.
When we appreciate ourselves and others, and when we appreciate all the Good Stuff we already have — we celebrate and enjoy it and Spread the Glow!
