And here’s #GlowTip 12) Don’t do it because you feel bad — do it because it makes you feel GOOD!
There’s one trip that’s guaranteed to take you straight down Resentment Road and that’s the Guilt Trip!
When you realise that you can travel your journey with joy, you won’t need to get sucked into a guilt trip, (yours or anyone else’s), ever again!
We’ve all got certain obligations and duties and things that we have to do in Life. But many of us put ourselves under added pressure and stress by agreeing to do a lot of other things that we don’t have to do — because we feel guilty if we don’t.
But if we’re doing something out of guilt and not out of love, it’s not going to be a joyful experience for ourselves, or for anyone else!
Guilt-trippers try to control and manipulate others, because they’re coming from a place of fear. They’re citizens of Victimville. And that’s never a joyful place to be.
But when we decide for ourselves what we’re going to do, how we’re going to do it (lovingly and joyfully works for everyone!), and who we’re going to do it with — we can lose the guilt trip and enjoy the journey.
I used to agree to doing things that I knew, immediately, that I didn’t want to do! And then I’d go through a long, stressful process of hoping arrangements would be cancelled, or wondering how I could get out of them — getting more stressed, the closer the time came, beating myself up because I felt I ‘should’ and often bailing out with some lame excuse, at the last minute…. I’m sure some of you know the feeling!
So one of the most liberating things I did for myself, was to give up doing things out of guilt. And oh — the relief!!
These days I’m not easily manipulated, controlled or pressured into doing anything that I don’t want to do. And I don’t feel guilty about it at all! Because I’ve realised that I’m not here to make others happy while making myself unhappy in the process.
When we give up the guilt and stop doing things because we feel bad — we can choose to do the things that make us feel good and Spread the Glow!
