8 Days to Go: Turning 50! 50 GlowTips I’m sharing to Spread the Glow!
8 Days to go until I turn 50! So I’ve decided to share 50 GlowTips to Get Your Glow ON — one per day, in no particular order of importance and just as they come to me…
And here’s GlowTip 43: Whatever I want is up to me: I’ve got my own magic wand and I’m waving it!
Much as we’d love it to happen, no-one’s going to wave a magic wand over our lives and make our dreams come true. But that’s ok! Because the Good News is that you can wave the wand yourself! You’ve already got it. You’ve had it all along. But are you willing to pick it up and start waving?
Of course you deserve to be/have/do whatever it is that you want — and it’s ok to have some sense of entitlement. There’s nothing wrong with wanting all the best out of Life. But it’s not going to land in your lap — you do have to show up consistently to receive it.
And when you set out with a sense of intent for what you want, you’ll do what you need to do to get there.
It may seem like an easy way out for someone else to take responsibility for our own stuff. But whatever anyone else is giving you, they can also take away. And who wants to be at the mercy of someone else’s whims and decisions? I’ve been there, and it’s a scary place to be!
So the most empowering thing I ever did for myself was choose to take 100% responsibility for my life. That way, whatever I want is up to me!
It’s not any one else’s responsibility to make me happy or to give me what I need. Every time we make other people responsible for our health, our wealth or our happiness, we are giving our power away.
It’s not your doctor’s responsibility to ‘make you well’, and it’s not the bank’s responsibility to manage your finances and keep you afloat. You can enlist an entire team of experts, gurus, coaches and advisors to ‘help you’ but no-one can help you unless you’re willing to help yourself.
You can read all the self-development books, listen to motivational speakers, attend expensive seminars and say that you “need to get motivated”. And it might help you to start out with enthusiasm. But it’s not sustainable in the long-term. Because only you can motivate yourself to keep going.
Other people can teach you, inspire you, show you, guide you and encourage you. But no-one else can empower you. You’ve got to take responsibility for yourself.
So until we start waving our own magic wand, we’ll always be on the fast track to Victimville. And that’s never a happy place to be!
I’d rather be self-determined, self-motivated and self-empowered — that way it’s up to me to tune into the Good Stuff and Get my Glow ON! And no-one can take it away. Because I’ve got my wand and I’m waving it!
