Hmmm, those initial UX designers you mentioned sound suspiciously like UI designers. A real UX designer, regardless of context, focuses on the problem at hand rather than the “trends”. They do research that helps them define that problem, and test multiple solutions before coming up with one that resonates with the business and with users. It’s easy to confuse UX and UI, especially with so many designers referring to themselves as both, but there’s a clear distinction between the two.
