trum•pery (n) — Late Middle English (tromper — to cheat), Middle French (tromperie — deceit), 1425–1485. Worthless nonsense, to deceive, swindle, something without worth or value, rubbish, trash, fraud, foolish talk or actions, showy but worthless finery, attractive articles of little value or use, gaudy.
