Amen, Alexainie. This is so well said. With all the entrenched bigotries of our culture, misogyny, racism, able-ism, etc., this subtle difference in very hard to get across to white male Americans. To have one’s in-built cultural privilege checked/”equalized” by a program like affirmative action or race or gender based scholarships is not “anti-white male bigotry.” For many it “feels” that way, but those feelings are misguided. The previous system that always and everywhere favored white men over everybody else was not fair. Using government regulation to balance the scales is therefore by definition not unfair. These programs force a certain level of fairness into an intrinsically unfair system. Losing an unfair advantage is not the same thing as being discriminated against.
