Good Lord. My wife and I pretty much do parent as “parent 1” and “parent 2.” We have very different sets of skills, and we each do what we’re best at in service to each other and our kids. I don’t think it would ever occur to either of us to run that through the “gender-meter” to see if we’re following proper cultural guidelines. Also, I have one son and one daughter, both of whom, from my observation, appear to be actual people with their own interests, desires, goals, etc. Seems to me the job of parent 1 and parent 2 is to nurture kid 1 and kid 2 in their individual quests to become the best “them” they can be.
