I love this, Sass. Very mature insight for a high schooler. That final part about the ocean of experience not delivering experiences, but showing what experiences we have to choose from is downright mystical. It reminds me of what the philosopher/occultist/writer Colin Wilson called “the passive fallacy.” Most people experience their life as something that “happens to them,” that is imposed on them from without. Freedom, Wilson taught, results from waking up to the reality that we create our lives by the active, conscious choices we make. Life doesn’t just happen (or at least doesn’t have to). We can sculpt our futures out of the myriad opportunities made possible by the world around us, and also the imagination within us. Real life is not passive. It is not delivered to us. We can make of it what we desire. Really wonderful, Sass.
