NBC’s hit series Chicago PD returns Wednesday after an Olympic hiatus, and its return episode features the most ambitious stunt sequence in the show’s eight-year history.

“Still Water” opens with Intelligence Unit detective Hailey Upton, portrayed by Tracy Spiridakos (MacGyver), stumbling onto a vicious car wreck while out for a run. Upton immediately leaps into action to save the victims and discovers that the crash is no accident, prompting her and the rest of Intelligence to launch a manhunt for the person who caused it.

Before the episode airs, Spiridakos is taking viewers behind the scenes of how the opening sequence was made. The actress introduces Wolf Entertainment’s latest “Behind the Scene” video, telling One Chicago fans that “Still Water” is one of her favorite Chicago PD episodes and giving her perspective on the jaw-dropping stunt that involves launching a car off a Chicago bridge.

“We had a really great time shooting [the episode],” the actress enthuses, “and did some pretty incredible stunt work.”

Spiridakos’ stunt double Kelli Scarangello talks about jumping into a river in frigid January and working with Spiridakos, who’s been a major part of the series since Upton was introduced near the end of Chicago PD season 4. The episode’s director Chad Saxton, stunt coordinator Tom Lowell and special effects expert David Greene are also interviewed to provide in-depth details about what it took to film the scene that kicks off “Still Water” with a bang.

There is a mild spoiler alert here, since it’s impossible to talk about shooting the episode without giving away some basic details about the plot, but it’s a great watch for anyone who wants to know more about Chicago PD’s action sequences or is a Hailey Upton fan. The character has gotten herself into some very challenging situations over her time on the show, and Wednesday’s just another time that she’s risen to the occasion.

“It’s crazy that this is my job!” Spiridakos laughs. “I just am super-grateful to be working and to have such a fun script and and an amazing team that’s so excited to bring it to life.”

Chicago P.D. airs Wednesdays at 10:00 p.m. ET/PT on NBC. More TV features and interviews are available at my website, Instagram or YouTube.
