I would explain it with an example

Job Opening for Metro Ticket Counter Vacancy: Requirement Any Graduate with 55%

There were 3 guys with graduation (with grad. percentage less than 55%) sitting on a benches in Bengaluru looking for jobs.

Guy 1 : Metro Ticket Counter Vacancy would have been secured by me, if the minimum percentage in graduation would have been 50 %.

Guy 2 : Agreed

Guy 3 : Yes, the guy Ashok from Maharashtra has secured the job, because he has 55 %, bloody hell.

Guy 1 : We need to something about it.

Guy 2: Lets go to local leader today and tell this, and we can do something, like making Kannada mandatory for such posts, this will remove Ashok’s eligibility

(so though I am less qualified but I will get the job).

Guy 3: Yes, lets do it.

So, now though they understand that who deserves the job, and they are less qualified for the job, they start protest against hindi, to earn livelihood.

And not just such graduates, even more qualified people like doctors, etc get insecurity and do such non-sense of fighting against hindi.
