Definitely a new perspective. Certain emotions drive our behaviors (doing) therefore leading us to listen particular kinds of music at different times. So the chain goes like this:

Emotions > behavior > music choice > either increasing the intensity of initial emotions or jumping onto new emotions as music brings in more past memories while listening > repeat the cycle and become unconscious of it after a while therefore ‘caring less about what’s playing’ as you mentioned :)
