5 Reasons Your Resume will get Rejected

When we write it on a single sheet of paper i.e. resume by putting all our skills, all the achievements, it rejects our resume by taking only 6 to 7 seconds.

Some companies have a machine called ATS (Application Tracking System) which scans our resume and if this machine is not able to detect the required keywords in our resume then this machine rejects our resume.

5 Major mistakes that you should avoid while making your resume

01 Length more than 1 page

Recruiters always look at your resume for only 6 to 7 seconds. If the length of your resume is more than one page, then there is it irrelevant information in your resume which you will have to remove.

So you should always summarize your resume in a single page and keep only relevant information in the resume. So that the recruiter can scan your resume in 6 to 7 seconds.

02 Flashy Formatting

The second major mistake is flashy formatting. Flashy formatting i.e. using weird fonts in the resume, using weird colors, applying photos, and exporting the resume in weird formats.

Therefore, always use Times New Roman font in your resume. If you have to use colors, then always use black and blue colors. Avoid photos if you are creating a professional resume. And always export your resume in PDF format and submit to the company.

03 Missing Keywords (Not ATS Friendly)

The third major mistake that students commit is missing keywords. Whenever the job profile is taken out in the company, that particular who defines some keywords for the profile like if the profile of software development engineer is there then you should know a programming language and with that your problem-solving skills should be good and you Should be good at development too.

So if all these keywords are missing from your resume then your resume will be rejected. Because in companies there is a machine named Application Tracking System (ATS) and this machine rejects 75% of resumes. Therefore, for different companies and different profiles, you will have to customize your resume so that your resume can also come in the top 25%.

04 Long and Irrelevant Paragraph

The fourth major mistake that students commit is the long paragraph key. Recruiters always scan your resume for only 6 to 7 seconds. So recruiters don’t want to waste their time by reading long and irrelevant paragraphs.

So always use bullet points in your resume so that the recruiter can find out the major things in your resume. Or use numbers because we remember numbers more.

05 Zero Feedback

The fifth major mistake that students commit is zero feedback. We always have to show our resume to our classmates, friends, and teachers for feedback because many times we make such common mistakes in our resume like grammatical error typing mistake which they will catch on first sight. But maybe we can not catch those mistakes even after seeing it again and again, so always show your resume to others for feedback.

So, always avoid these major mistakes while making your resume.
