According to Erik Erikson, the first developmental stage involves determining whether or not an individual can trust others. This stage can go smoothly if their primary caregiver, who is most likely their mother, is compliant with their treatment. This means that this parent would have to provide them with food, warmth, and care regularly. What this would do is help to calm down, if not fully eliminate, their sense of doubt about the world.
