My first post on LinkedIn after a year

Me explaining the benefits of public speaking at Odense International Festival, Denmark (2023)

For several years I did not understand my relationship with social media, and I am specifically talking about Facebook, Instagram and Linkedin. In absence of this connection I drifted away from Facebook and Instagram, initially posting seldom to a passive feed consumer to finally uninstalling them. I really did not know what, why and for whom am I posting. I did like the eyeballs but I also did not want my motivation to be that.

But one platform I sticked to was LinkedIn. It was professional and I approved my relationship with this platform, a professional space to connect and build profile for future opportunities. Ah, it was complex. Amidst the chaos in my life and struggling to decide on a career trajectory, I used to doubt what do I really have that I can talk about. I undercounted my learnings, or should I say undervalued them (because they did not translate into the professional success that I had imagined). And then I realized I was actually hiding from fears of showing up my authentic self, and was consious of the eyeballs (my own made up “चार लोग”) and their judgements of me. I was as if looking for the right story of my life to share. Damn, I fell to tricks of the mind that rationalised my fears for atleast 2 years for not allowing me to post anything that came to my mind, observations, commentary, achievements, learnings etc.

It funny and scary how fears creep into your existence without getting noticed!

It is 10th October and I am on way to Jaipur from Delhi while writing this. Train/bus solo journeys have been an immersive medium for me to introspect, wonder why?

Let’s see when do I post it on Linkedin. Or will my brain trick me again in perfecting it and never posting!

Anyway, why this post? Because I wanted to post something honest on Linkedin for long. It’s been a challenge. I want to break this ice and continue posting about topics which I think maybe useful to people out there or may be not. I just do not want to care about it.

2023’s been eventful. Things happened!
I moved to Denmark without a job, adopted freelancing full time, lost my mother-in-law to cancer, became top rated freelancer on Upwork, upskilled no-code automation skills, learnt 10+ tools, committed to learning Danish language to 200+ days, picked cycling and cycled 2000+ kms in last 6 months, started volunteering & travelling. I intend to derive from these experiences and post around them while being carefree and not take the burden to grab eyeballs or build a following!

Gosh, I need to post this first.

P.S. I did post it after 15 days, on 25 October 2023 :)

The pot is full, tap is open and words are overflowing. So turned to Medium to make them count. Happy to connect.
