I agree with Danny, who posted a day or so ago, that this article is excellent, and very important. At the same time I don’t know if I agree with your explanation of compromise. We don’t necessarily need to agree on a topic for there to be peace and unity. For example, I believe Jesus is raised from the dead, and you may not, but I don’t need to find a middle-ground statement about Him to “get along” with you. Similarly, a nation can disagree about which candidate is the better of two evils, and not fall into disorder. The goal, as you point out correctly, is empathy, consideration, and patience towards one another.
