Bicameral Portfolio Company ClanPlay CEO Stops By Aion Telegram for Impromptu AMA…. Real One Oct 4th at 3pm EDT!

After being featured in a wonderful Venture Beat profile as well as multiple other excellent, top notch, superlative stories, CEO of ClanPlay Leo Frankel stopped by the Aion Telegram channel for an impromptu AMA session with the vibrant community there. We’ve re-printed the highlights below and Leo will be back to answer more questions on Thursday October 4th at 3pm EDT on the Aion Reddit channel!

Leonard Frankel

Hey guys, Leonard from ClanPlay here.

We are all very excited towards launching the Good Game Marketplace on Aion. After modifying our ICO plans (as we are currently funding-satisfied), we have made Aion the exclusive blockchain in our project. Users coming into the platform will transact using Aion indeed. We have a list of heavy weight games planned for the launch, including Fortnite, Clash Royale and PUBG. All of which will be offered to our existing users and introduced to new ones. Our previous mobile app became the highest rated messaging app for gamers in the world and was featured inside Clash Royale by Supercell. We will work hard to repeat that acceptance.

This Telegram group is super active, so I probably won’t be able to keep track of all following messages, but we are definitely happy to have joined this family :)

Question

What attracted your team to launch on Aion instead of other platforms?

Leonard Frankel

We were looking into a future platform with requirements around serving massive scale audiences. Our tech team sat with team Aion in Toronto to review the network and understand the road map. It had a lot going for it already in terms of transaction costs and expected speed. On top of it, the promise of flexibility around interoperability was important for us.

Question

What do you mean by “having Fortnite planned for the launch”

Leonard Frankel

We have a data feed into all these games and can accurately measure game results of players allowing us to do so. While we don’t have a direct collaboration with EPIC, in the past we had great acceptance of our app by game devs, it will likely repeat

Question

Are you thinking of adding more games in the future like league of legends, more mobile games and other computer games or is it strictly toward mobile games only?

Leonard Frankel

We will work towards adding any game with sufficient scale and a competitive nature. Some of our early games are mobile focused while for others (i.e. Fortnite) we start with PC & console audiences, and add mobile afterwards

Question

Good Game is the coin for transacting within the app. Will Aion be required for some additional functionality or exchange mechanism?

Leonard Frankel

Good Game is an Aion based token. It will be the exclusive currency on the platform

Question

Will there be an exchange trading pair Aion to Good Game Inside the app environment? Or will users have to get Good Game from external exchanges?

Leonard Frankel

We are looking at several solutions. Most likely implement an API of one or more major exchanges to allow on-platform exchange into GG

Question

How many users does the ClanPlay have now? Will they be using Aion or an Aion-based Token? What are you plans for marketing & advertising the Good Game Marketplace?

Leonard Frankel

We have reached nearly 2 million users, all of which are gamers. The upcoming marketplace will be of definite interest to them.

To engage with the GG Marketplace they will need an Aion wallet and to acquire Aion based GG tokens.

Marketing has always been one of our core competencies and we intend to bring mass awareness to the Marketplace through smart advertising, collaborations and great user experience

Question

Is there a set date for the launch of the GG MarketPlace?

Leonard Frankel

Well, there is an endless disagreement between my CTO and myself about lanch dates, but that’s common and keeps things spicy.

I think we will open up for early users by the end of November.

Question

Do you know about competitors? Like wax? How do you compare?

Leonard Frankel

Good questions.

Wax = exchange for In-game items

GG = exchange for In-game ACTIONS

The distinction allows us to comply with all platform’s ToS, including mobile, thus to serve communities of the largest games on Earth.

Non-crypto competitors include battlefy.com and toornament.com, which attract millions of visitors.

We should have been live with our tournaments in September, but we believe November is a realistic ETA now.

Question

Could you clarify in simple terms as to how a game action would be deemed a transaction? I’m trying to get a bigger picture as to how and what it is exactly you’re transacting.

Leonard Frankel

Sure, it all started when ran a survey among our users, more than 1,000 people participated. We noticed that they were engaging in clan recruitment (In-Game groups) on our app and asked them if they would need tools and help around that. The results were amazing: more than 75% of players said they would consider joining a clan that pays them and more than half of clan leaders that spend money in the game said they would consider paying a strong player to join them. There was clearly a need for such a swap of services, yet there was no structured way to do so.

We look at an industry of 2.4 billion gamers today and believe that about 1%-2% of them will want to engage in paid gaming.

On our path to create value for gamer skills we will let anyone pay players for such services inside games (clan recruitment is just the beginning) and our first step will be to let players test their skill against others and engage in challenges on their own game results — effectively earning from playing.

Question

Do you have a standard fee module that for example can be used by “clanleaders” to be the same for all or can this be set by the “clanleaders” themselves?

Leonard Frankel

The In-Game Actions trading will be set in an open economy. If you want the best player in Fortnite to join your match and are willing to pay them 100k$ — you will be able to do so. The marketplace’s fee will be a flat % of all deals

Question

Gross revenue is attracted by advertisers to cover the costs of in-game action token rewards?

Leonard Frankel

Game developers, that currently as a whole spend more then 60bln$/year advertising their games, will instead be able to pay players directly to discover and engage with their games. It’s a huge market potential and will also lead to a better distribution of wealth.

Question

Do you support any game to be developed onto your platform from the ground up or do you only support inhouse games already available?

Leonard Frankel

We have requests from small developers. From the start, we maintained a very lean approach and even now our team is small and efficient, which unfortunately means we can only add support for games that achieved significant scale. At a longer future, we will look into self-serve solutions to support a larger variety of games.
