How We Measure Our Social Media Success
BY LAURA MCINTYRE
Here at Big Blue Digital, we practice what we preach to our clients.
We strive to lead by example in all areas of our business functionality, which is why we have decided to share one of our own industry wins.
MEASURING SOCIAL MEDIA OVERALL
We use a variety of methods to measure our performance on Social Media. At the beginning of each month, our Marketing Team sits down to record our performance on each platform we use from the previous month. It is in this time we look at our following, engagement, reach and top posts along with our email marketing campaigns.
But, just to keep us on our toes for the duration of each month, we also refer to our Klout account as a performance indicator. On Wednesday, April 13, Big Blue Digital achieved its highest score on Klout — 63.65. But before you ask, let us explain to you exactly what Klout is and why we use it.
WHAT IS KLOUT?
Klout is a website and mobile app that uses Social Media analytics to rank its users according to online social influence. The scores are ranked from 1–100. In determining the user score, Klout measures the size of a user’s social media network and correlates the content created to measure how other users interact with that content.
WHY IS IT IMPORTANT?
Klout has more than 620 million scored users. We’ve been able to track which of our Social Media channels are influencing our audience more than others, which then shows us which posts are more highly ranked than others.
From that, we then know what posts have stirred more engagement than others and what channels in particular to focus on.
We can see that Instagram is having a huge impact on engagement with our brand but, this doesn’t mean we drop everything else — Instagram drives traffic back to our blog so in our Digital Ecosystem we maintain our site, this blog and our articles as our home and use Social channels to build engagement with that content and therefore our brand.
SHOULD YOU JOIN KLOUT?
Is that even a question?
This is all about building influence. Yes, you are able to see your highly performing posts in the analytics sections of each channel — but here you are able to pinpoint your highly performing channels (we had no idea our Instagram page would account for so much of our score!)
