The Merchandising of Virtue
Nassim Nicholas Taleb

You have very powerfully expressed something I have felt for a long time. As a former research professor in an environmental engineering department doing water and climate research, I witnessed this phenomenon first hand. On one hand, professors teach students that the market system is destroying the earth and that it had to be taken down while on the other hand enjoying all of the gifts that it produces. I much happier now that I work in the insurance industry where I produce a product that everyone needs and where my coworkers are extremely smart and hardworking and have no delusions of being virtuous.
