Big Green DAO Governance Update

Attention Big Green DAO Community Members! A quick update on the status of our DAO, and recent votes held on the Big Green DAO Snapshot space.
There are currently 47 total $GARDEN governance token holders comprising the Big Green DAO Community. This includes 6 organizations on the DAO Committee from Grants Round 1 (GR1), 10 organizations from Grants Round 2 (GR2), 29 organizations that have claimed tokens that have claimed tokens from Grants Round 3 (GR3), and 2 Donors. A total of 37 organizations were awarded grants in GR3, equating to a 78% matriculation rate of GR3 recipients to DAO Community Members (i.e. those that have claimed their $GARDEN token).
Over the past week, Big Green DAO held two important votes: GR4 Roll Call Vote and a vote to withhold inclusion of 1ETH to $100K USD donors until after the conclusion of Grants Round 4 (GR4).
Grants Round 4 Roll Call
Following onboarding of new organizations into the DAO and prior to the opening of the next Grants Round, Big Green DAO traditionally opens a “roll call vote” for new community members to practice snapshot voting and signal their intent to participate in the upcoming grants round. The vote is also open to existing community members who wish to express their intent to participate in the upcoming grants round.
A total of 31 of 47 DAO Community members voted in the GR4 Roll Call vote, including 20 first time voters from GR3. A total of 9 new GR3 community members did not vote in the roll call. There is no penalty for missing the vote, as it is intended to be a practice using DAO technology, and informal indication of intent to participate in the upcoming grants round. All six DAO Committee members voted in the Roll Call, as well as 50% (5) of GR2 organizations.
Not bad overall! And with a few more new and old voters we would be very close to an excellent voter turnout! Please keep an eye out for announcements and learning sessions for GR4, which will formally open on September 1, 2022, and is important not to miss!
Inclusion of 1 ETH Donors
On August 19, 2022, a vote to delay the inclusion of donors between 1 ETH and $100K USD in Big Green DAO passed by a slim margin, with 77% (20 votes) in favor, 11.5% (3 votes) against and 11.5% (3 votes) abstain. The vote required a ⅔ majority of participating VP to be successful.
The Big Green DAO Lite Paper stipulated that donors would be incrementally included in the DAO and be eligible to receive $GARDEN governance tokens, including donors of 1ETH to $100K USD. To date, 2 donors over $100K USD have received their $GARDEN governance token, and a third is soon to be onboarded for GR4.
This vote will delay the process of incorporating all initial KYC’d (formally identified and verified) donors into the DAO, across all donation ranges, until after the experimental period of the DAO’s operations. Big Green DAO remains committed to incorporating these donors, however, needs additional time to test key governance and grantmaking structures, and ensure doing so does not impede fulfillment of the DAO’s primary mission to empower the voice of and put frontline organizations in the driver’s seat of grantmaking.

All $GARDEN governance token holders are eligible to participate, and the DAO Operations and Education Team will be releasing a series of announcements and learning series and hosting educational workshops over the coming week.
