I get what you guys are saying. The Dubs are filthy rich and COULD have afforded Livingston and Iguodala’s contracts regardless, albeit at a higher tax. Still, it’s a little misleading and unfair to suggest Durant’s pay cut was about saving the owners money.

The Dubs didn’t just call it a day and pocket those luxury tax savings you cite. They turned around and signed Nick Young at the MLE, which almost certainly puts them over the apron. They did so knowing this would not only trigger the 375% added tax but also complicate their efforts to re-sign Patrick McCaw after next season.

All told, the Dubs have more than doubled their effective payroll over last year. It just seems like an odd example to pick to prove your point.
