[ENG-TEST] PREPARATION FOR GENERAL ENGLISH TEST
PREPARATION FOR GENERAL ENGLISH TEST
This post will summarize to you what should be prepare for the general english test.
The general English test is usually has 3 main parts: listening (optional), pronunciation, conversation, correct verb form (optional), reading, and writing. And almost all of them is multiple choices, so I now will take there parts one by one.
LISTENING:
In this part, you should have to listen (2 times) a short conversation or a describe of picture or something like that. So this is something you should pay your attention when you listening:
- Read the question and all answers quickly and clearly before listening.
- Do not try to remember all the whole sentence, just remember keywords in sentence. (same in question and answers)
- Point your pencil to the choice when you listening, if you feel the answer maybe right, just check it, and if you have many unsure answer after listening in 1 question , just take the most percentage choice you think it will correct.
- If you don’t know the answer after listening, just take the choice that you think this will correct for the question.
PRONUNCIATION:
I’m not good in this part, so I think the good way is read aloud and choose the word sound different when you speak. The most useful way to improve this part I think that is watching and listening music, news, movies… but some character accent very different others, so be careful when you listening 😆
CONVERSATION:
This part will give you the sentence and you will choose the correct answer that will make them become a short conversation or the common sentences in daily life.
Ex: Question: What time is it?
You should choose the answer: It’s 9 o’clock.
I think this part is very easy, but it is easy when you understand the sentence, so what about the question that you can’t understand anything. Generally, in this situation I will if it do 3 steps:
Try to understand the question or keywords in the question.
Try to understand all answers, and eliminate the choice that I think it is wrong.
Put all answers to question and read it, if it sound “cool” and not “weird”, choice it.
READING:
You will read the short story, or the small printed advertisement and choose the correct answer about the story, but this part will take you a lot time, so I suggest you do reading part in final when you do most answers in other parts.
Reading part is also like listening part, so you should pay attention when reading:
- Quickly summarize the story or advertisement and write the main topic.
- Highlight or underline keywords in story.
- Read the question and all answers’s keywords (like listening part).
- Compare with keywords which underlined in story and choose the most fitting answer.
WRITING:
Writing part is very easy in general english test, because not like toeic test or ielts test, general english writing just ask about usual topic like: your family, your dream, your childhood. So my advice is do writing part before reading part because it very easy to get high score when you tell your own story. And this is what you should do when writing:
- Write your main topic and just think closely about that topic when you write.
- List 2–3 highlights in your story.
- Your story should have 3 part: Head (introduction), Body (tell the highlight), End (your feeling or something you learnt).
- Check your grammar after you finish.
- Just write a short story and it should be done in 10–15 minutes.
