Infosys Hyderabad Pocharam Campus

Solar Powered Campus — Know About Them!

Solar Powered Campus is build using Solar Panels. Solar Panels are made of Photovoltaic (PV) Cells. These Cells convert sunlight into Direct Current (DC). An Inverter is used to convert the DC electricity into Alternating current (AC). Solar Energy is sustainable and renewable providing energy security. Solar power doesn’t generate emissions or wastes unlike energy extracted from fossil fuels or coal.

Most of the Solar Powered Offices have solar plants set on the rooftops of the buildings. Solar Power is not only eco-friendly and renewable, but also helps in cutting down the cost of electricity and other expenditures. The world’s largest solar powered office building is located in Dezhou, North-West China.

Understanding the Design

The Infosys at Pocharam is a 450 acre Solar Powered Campus. The Phase-1 of this campus has a built-up area of 30 lakh sq. ft. with 16,000 seats. It has Software Development blocks, residential training facilities, food courts, recreational facilities, multi-level car park, water treatment plant, sewage treatment plant and utility blocks. The Solar Powered Campus at Infosys is operating with 0.6 MW capacity solar plant on the rooftop.

A first of its kind, Solar Powered Campus plant will have a total capacity of 7.2 MW. Synchronizing to the grid, it is expected to generate 12 million kWh a year. Infosys currently has 12 MW Solar Power Plants installed across various campuses, with another 3MW power plant expected to be developed within few months. The Energy Performance Index (EPI) of the campus is 75 kWh /sq. m p.a.

Going Green in every way possible!

Solar Powered Campus initiative was taken to reduce the company’s carbon dioxide emissions by more than 9,200 tons. By the end of the fiscal 2015, Infosys had reduced its per capita consumption of electricity by 46%. About 30% of the energy requirements at the campus are met through renewable resources. The Infosys campus is globally recognised as one of the Eco Friendly Campuses with world class innovation in sustainability.

Other Green Measures by Infosys IT SEZ at Pocharam:

  • First in India to adopt ‘Radiant Cooling’ technology.
  • High performance facade, naturally lit office spaces.
  • Efficient water management with Smart Metering.
  • Competent Chiller Plants; Lakes for Rainwater Harvesting.
