For someone that is on the other side of the career curve the advice is life is not a series of sprints but a marathon. Plan the energy to be successful through the marathon right up to crossing the finish line.

But within the scope of the race plan there are times where energy and pace are increased and then reduced to meet the next phase.

As I advise junior engineers, this is not a competition. There are no blue ribbons at the end of this thing. We do compete against external entities, as a team.

In today’s world if you are ~30 plan on another 40 years. This is not a double life sentence, it is a timeline plan. Guaranteed your mind will be writing checks your body can’t cash, but you do get to use what is still useful in the mind and spirit.
