Challenges faced to withstand the complexities of the industry.
Having worked in diverse Industries, complexities and challenges were different in different Industries.
But If we are talking about helmet Industry, Manufacturing helmet is not a simple & easy task as huge investments are needed as it is a voluminous product. Moreover helmet manufacturing process is technology as well as labour oriented product at the same time and brands like us need to make this much needed move to fill the gap.
Firstly, helmets being a life saving device, it should be ISI marked only, but still non ISI marked helmetsare being extensively produced in our country. The government has yet not brought the helmet into the mandatory list. It’s unbelievable that most of the electronics are ISI certified but the helmets aren’t and this is a major challenge to face. The capacity of 50% ISI marked helmet manufacturers are empty as the market is flooded with non ISI and fake helmets. Secondly, the helmet Industry doesn’t know when the government will make helmet mandatory Pan India. As of now, the total investment required to serve the helmets to the Indian market is Rs.6000 crores so, nobody is ready to invest on this heavily because the industry players don’t know when the helmet will be mandatory Pan India. Right now, the helmets comes under Luxury products as 18% GST is levied on it. The company have purposefully urged the GST council to cut the GST on helmets to 0% as helmet is a life saving device and is equivalent to medicines when its importance is considered.

The current industry scenario
If we talk about current general industry scenario, India’s economy is following a sharp decline in consumer demand and tepid investment. The government has already announced a series of measures as part of its efforts to put growth back on track but if we talk about helmet industry, time is extremely favourable as industry has lot of support from the government. With growing demand for helmets, Steelbird is looking to double its turnover to Rs.1000 crore by 2020–21 from around Rs.500 crore at present.
Achievements
Brand is elevating both at domestic and international levels. Plants are at expansion mode, production capacity is increasing,

About Future goals
Seeing both company and myself at growing platforms in the near future. After a long wait of three years,
The motor vehicle ( amendment ) act 2019 was passed by parliament and received president’s assent on August 9. The act saw manifold increase in fines while riding two wheelers without wearing helmets. Therefore company is investing Rs.150 crores across its three plants in baddi( H.P ) as it looks to cater to increased demand across the country. The fresh investment will help the company expand its product portfolio and add more models to the existing range. Simultaneously company is focusing on all verticals for deeper penetration.
