Stop Envying What Others Have and Make the Best of Your Own. Keeping Focused Will Get Us There!

For the past three months I’ve been stressed out.

Facing various kinds of test and examination. The toughest test was national university entrance test.

I’m living in a nation where people are going nuts over public universities. People at the same age as me — around 17 or 18 years old to be exact, are struggling a lot just to become a student of their dream university.

People from different country may wonder ‘why?’

The answer is pride. People here are so proud for themselves if they can pass the super difficult university entrance test and be in a prestigious university. But it doesn’t rule out the possibility that their parents done struggled all types of ways just to have their children enrolled in one of those prestigious public universities. In other words, some of them might do a dirty ways.

I, myself failed to pass the entrance test. Speaking frankly, my parents couldn’t afford to bribe the professor to put me into a certain public university so I chose to go to private university instead. (P.S. Just kidding)

It’s a little bit complicated to explain why we would pay more for public university than a private one. Well, it’s true that the private universities are usually more expensive than public universities. But for some reason, certain public universities set a higher cost for their students because the government seems to not invest much in higher education.

But, my point isn’t about which public university is more expensive or something like that. My point is the students. For those who don’t have a chance to become one of the student in prestigious pubic university, please don’t lose hope. No one knows what we would become in the future.

I’m starting my university life soon. And I often find myself cringing when I see people who always complaining about their life. They complain why they couldn’t be like the others.

My fellow colleagues in my university for the example, they always talk as if they don’t deserve being rejected by those public university. One time, they talk about basketball match between my university and one of public universities which located not too far from my university that may come soon. Suddenly one of them said,

“I’m not gonna watch it. Or I may end up cheering for that public university instead of our university”

Guys, why would you envy that much?

Envy comes from people’s ignorance of, or lack of belief in, their own gift. –Jean Vanier

You may think that the grass is greener on the other side. But if you take the time to water your own grass it would be just as green. Stop being jealous of the grass on the other side of the fence. Go out and get some fertilizers to make your grass greener.

This is just the beginning. If you don’t set your dream high and stay with the negative of your mind, we may end up not doing anything and never come with something original.

To envy another is just an insult to yourself, it belittles of your blessings, and only served to undermine your own personal greatness. –Stephanie Cooper

So dear my fellow colleagues around the nation, to everyone who have same fate as mine,

We should empower each other instead of being so hateful and envious of one another. Remember to always be grateful and happy for all that we have.

The earlier you learn that you should focus on what you have and not obsess about what you don’t have, the happier you will be. Happiness is the best revenge, because nothing drives people crazier than seeing someone living a good life.

I’ll leave the choice up to you :)
