One question you may want to ask is what made us choose the Nationwide Association of Blood Bikes (NABB) as our first charity. Who is NABB and what do they do?

Why are we supporting the Nationwide Association Of Blood Bikes?

NABB is a free out-of-hours medical delivery service for the National Health Service (NHS) in the UK. NABB is made up of volunteers who work unsociable hours to provide emergency support.

The main backbone of NABB is their Blood Bikers, a team of riders who travel across the UK on their motorbikes to deliver medical supplies, such as blood, platelets, organs, and baby’s milk.

Blood Bikers are an essential part of the UK’s medical service because they act in emergency situations to deliver clinical resources which otherwise could not have been delivered. This is because they act in all hours of the day, including at night or during the holidays when NHS transport services are limited.

Motorcycles are also faster and can cut through areas that cars and vans can’t, making them the perfect emergency vehicle for supplies. This free service also fills in the gap for the NHS, allowing them to allocate their limited funding to other resources of importance, such as staffing or equipment.

National Geographic did an excellent short video on the work Blood Bikers do. Check it out here.

The people behind the charity are some of the most caring and selfless people you will ever meet, dedicating their time and energy to something that is bigger than themselves.

Ray Semmens, a blood biker, said “I love that feeling when you come out of a path lab and they snatch the box off you and say “Thank god you’re here”. You come away thinking “I’ve done something here today””.

The work of NABBs volunteers has helped to change the way bikers are viewed in the UK and led to many ride-outs and motorcycle fund-raisers. John Stephney, a member of NAAB, said “We take the public image of the leather-clad hooligan with no road manners, and we blow that out of the water by walking into a neonatal intensive care unit with a box of donor milk for the children”. This change in public view has seen a positive impact on the biker community in general, with many showing up to ride-outs and fundraisers across the UK in support of the charitable community.

This is similar to how Biker Babes NFT wants to change the way people view online communities. Rather than the scams, hatred, and fear, we want people to notice the real changes a strong community can have. We want to demonstrate that online communities can make real-world differences. That’s why we’re donating to NABB.

NABB is entirely reliant on the work of volunteers and donations to fund it’s operations. Biker Babes NFT are dedicating 25% of mint sales revenue from The Rosie Project to NABB to support the services of this unsung charity. We will donate at the 50% and 100% milestones of The Rosie Project. You can check out our roadmap to find out more about our plans for Biker Babes NFT.

NABB is only the first charity we would like to support within the Biker Babes NFT journey. We want to make a difference for causes that mean the most to the people who mean the most: you. That’s why we are offering voting rights to community members so they can choose charities that matter to them.

To be part of the Biker Babes NFT community, you can join our Discord and connect with us on Twitter, Instagram, and Reddit. You can receive updates about the project by following us on Medium and YouTube. If you have questions about our decisions or about NAAB, feel free to contact us.
