Introduction

In societies worldwide, orphans often confront daunting challenges stemming from the absence of parental care and support. The lack of stable family structures significantly impedes their access to education, leaving them susceptible to poverty, exploitation, and an enduring cycle of disadvantage. Nonetheless, initiatives aimed at empowering orphans through education have emerged as promising endeavors, offering these vulnerable children the opportunity to forge a brighter future.

Education serves as a potent tool for transforming the lives of orphaned children, equipping them with essential knowledge, skills, and avenues for personal growth. By investing in education, we not only provide orphans with the means to break free from the cycle of poverty but also empower them to become agents of change within their communities.

At the core of empowering orphans through education lies the belief in the inherent potential of every child, irrespective of their circumstances. Through access to quality education, orphans can develop critical thinking skills, nurture creativity, and cultivate resilience in the face of adversity. Moreover, education instills values of empathy, compassion, and social responsibility, enabling orphans to become engaged citizens who contribute positively to society.

This is the primary reason we have chosen to focus on helping and advocating for orphans through education.

Idea Evolved In Past Few Weeks

Our idea has evolved and made progress over the past few weeks. We have been engaging with various families, commencing tutoring sessions for students, especially since admissions are currently closed in many places. Our focus lies in aiding students and preparing them for entrance exams. Additionally, we have initiated fundraising efforts to assist students in paying their school fees.

New Findings

Last week, a new discovery prompted us to refine our idea to better serve society. Our experience at Ali Trust School fell short of expectations. When we approached them regarding admitting deserving students, they declined, citing a strict policy allowing admissions only from six specific classes, with admissions currently closed. This incident highlighted that institutions of authority are not prioritizing deserving student admissions. Consequently, we have resolved to personally assist students with their studies and financially support them by covering their school fees through donations.

Planning

Our target audience comprises orphans facing obstacles on their educational journey, particularly those experiencing financial hardships hindering their pursuit of education. Due to overwhelming financial constraints, many of these children are compelled to seek livelihoods rather than focus on education. To mitigate this, Team Kar e Khair has taken on the responsibility of removing any barriers impeding their academic progress. We aim to support our target audience by providing financial assistance and are thus dedicated to connecting them with willing sponsors who can cover their educational expenses.

Through discussions with our potential target audience, we have identified their primary need: the financial burden of their children’s education. By prioritizing their needs and desires, we have devised a solution that aligns with their expectations. As our team continues to dedicate efforts, adjustments will be made in response to audience needs.

We are actively employing various methods to identify potential sponsors, leveraging the power of social media and personal connections. Utilizing platforms such as WhatsApp and Instagram, we have disseminated posters that reflect our cause, encouraging individuals to donate and join us in our mission of “Kar e Khair”.

Moreover, for funding, we also plan to reach out to people in our area so that we can cover the fees for the children in need. We have planned to accommodate expenses for the month of February for the children we are in contact with. Additionally, we have created a LinkedIn account, and through our LinkedIn page, we aim to reach out to people who can assist us in making our project long-lasting. Together, we can work on empowering the less privileged.

Implementation

Measuring and evaluating the impact of our project is crucial for assessing its effectiveness and ensuring its sustainability. We employ both quantitative and qualitative methods to comprehensively gauge our impact.

Kar-E-Kahir Team Quantitative Measures:

1. The number of children who have benefited from our educational support program.

2. Funds raised through various fundraising activities to sustain our project.

3. Awareness of our project and campaign by deeply monitoring our social media engagement and also the responses to our campaign individually, both physically and online.

4. Evaluating the cost-effectiveness of the project by comparing the resources invested with the outcomes achieved, such as the cost per student served or the cost per percentage improvement in educational performance.

Kar-E-Kahir Team Qualitative Measures:

In addition to quantitative data, we collect qualitative feedback to understand the real-life impact of our project.

1. Collecting periodic feedback from the children and their families, highlighting the positive changes they have experienced as a result of our support.

2. Increased awareness within the community about the importance of education for children and the need for collective action to support them with complete details and stats that we have developed.

3. Timely reporting to sponsors and donors about the progress of the team and the children.

4. Engaging with children to understand their educational aspirations and future goals can provide insights into how the project has inspired and motivated them to pursue higher education and career opportunities.

5. Measuring the level of involvement and support from the families of children in their educational journey.

6. Implementing the meetup of sponsors with the children to assess the sustainability of relationships and connections formed between them will help build a strong connection and make this project sustainable.

Major Learnings and Takeaways:

a. Group Dynamics: The collaboration within our team has been wonderful with a bit of a communication gap due to the election as well and of our project’s success. We encourage each team member to take responsibility and try to evaluate their progress daily, and we schedule a weekly meeting to give each other feedback.

b. Areas of Improvement: We need to build strong connections with trust, NGOs, and schools for sustainability and to enhance progress. So, we are doing our best to engage with these organizations and try to learn the techniques and methods they use to make this initiative at its best level.

c. Planning Considerations: We need to document things from day one and also have to look for sponsors and should engage with these Trusts and NGOs to get feedback from them and the techniques and insights on how to use our time effectively. As we keep going in this project, we learn new things as well as the way to do these things more effectively.

d. Efficiency in Implementation: Need to structure the thought and should have created a flow chart with all the details mentioned, like responsibilities and the role of each member. This will keep us more on track. We will implement management software where we create our to-do list and weekly goals, and then we will discuss how to achieve these goals.

e. Utilizing Project Learnings: Beyond the Fellowship, we intend to leverage the insights and experiences gained from this project to advocate for broader systemic changes in children’s education and welfare policies, aiming for sustainable, long-term impact beyond our immediate interventions.
