Böitaari’s Stage Return at the 2025 Festivity of Mother Bisila
On August 15th, Böitaari took part in the musical programme of the 2025 Festivity of Mother Bisila, held in Fuenlabrada (Madrid). Organised by the Asociación Cultural Bubi, the annual event brings together the Bubi community and wider audiences to honour the figure of Mother Bisila and promote Bubi culture through music, dance, and poetry.
In her set, Böitaari performed two songs that reflect different stages of her artistic path: pt.2 — PLANETA, from her visual EP STAARI TIME: Echoes of a Ruptura, and Ohoéa — Katyá por Bulerías, part of REBECA: Años Después, a project that revisits her earliest Bubi-language material from a new perspective.
Ahead of the second song, the artist addressed the audience with a brief message:
Next, I’m going to sing a song that’s very special to me, because it was the first song in Bubi I ever learned, when I was just 12 years old. And with this, I want to share a message: we cannot let our culture disappear. It is our duty and our responsibility to continue the legacy left by our elders, so that future generations can grow up knowing their roots.
A highlight of the performance was the participation of Maripaz Sauto Chocoro (Rioko) and Thiago Sorizo Eribo, members of the katyá dance group of the association, who joined the performance of Ohoéa dressed in traditional attire. Their choreography, created spontaneously in the moment, added a layer of expressive movement that complemented the musical structure of the piece.
The Festivity of Mother Bisila not only offered a space for community gathering, but also created an opportunity for different generations to engage with Bubi culture through various artistic disciplines and the shared use of language.
