Reflecting on God’s Majesty and Sovereignty
The King of Glory is a phrase that conveys the awe-inspiring majesty and sovereignty of God. Throughout the Bible, various verses and passages depict God as the King of Glory, revealing His greatness, power, and exalted position.
Psalm 24:7–10 beautifully captures the significance of the King of Glory: “Lift up your heads, O you gates! And be lifted up, you everlasting doors! And the King of glory shall come in. Who is this King of glory? The LORD strong and mighty, the LORD mighty in battle. Lift up your heads, O you gates! Lift up, you everlasting doors! And the King of glory shall come in. Who is this King of glory? The LORD of hosts, He is the King of glory.” These verses highlight God’s triumphant entry into His dwelling place, symbolizing His dominion and authority over all creation.
God’s kingship is not limited to a physical kingdom but extends over all aspects of existence. In Psalm 47:7–8, we read, “For God is the King of all the earth; sing praises with understanding. God reigns over the nations; God sits on His holy throne.” This passage emphasizes that God’s kingship transcends human borders and encompasses the entire earth. He rules with justice, wisdom, and righteousness.
The King of Glory is also depicted in the person of Jesus Christ. In the New Testament, Jesus is described as the King of Glory, the one who embodies God’s majesty and authority. Revelation 19:16 declares, “And He has on His robe and on His thigh a name written: KING OF KINGS AND LORD OF LORDS.” This verse reveals Jesus’ ultimate reign and establishes Him as the supreme ruler over all.
Furthermore, Jesus’ triumphal entry into Jerusalem, described in Matthew 21:1–11, portrays Him as the King of Glory. As He rides on a donkey, the crowds shout, “Hosanna to the Son of David! Blessed is He who comes in the name of the LORD!” This event signifies Jesus’ royal entrance, fulfilling prophecies and establishing Him as the long-awaited Messiah and King.
Reflecting on the King of Glory evokes a sense of reverence and humility. It reminds us that God is sovereign, seated on His throne, and worthy of our worship and adoration. His kingship calls us to submit to His authority, seek His guidance, and align our lives with His purposes.
The King of Glory’s reign brings hope and assurance. In Isaiah 43:15, God declares, “I am the LORD, your Holy One, the Creator of Israel, your King.” This verse assures us that God, as the King of Glory, is our faithful and loving ruler. His reign brings deliverance, protection, and provision to His people.
As believers, we are invited to participate in the kingdom of the King of Glory. In Colossians 1:13–14, we learn that through Christ, we have been delivered from the power of darkness and transferred into the kingdom of His beloved Son. We are called to live in alignment with the values and principles of His kingdom, reflecting His glory to the world.
Contemplating the King of Glory reminds us of God’s greatness, sovereignty, and exalted position. He is the majestic ruler over all creation, seated on His throne, and deserving of our worship. Jesus Christ, as the King of Glory, fulfills prophecies, establishes His reign, and invites us into His kingdom. Let us bow before the King of Glory, recognizing His authority and living in surrender and obedience to His will.
