Curing Internet Masturbation

Are you like me who turns to internet for everything. You are having 5 minute off, what should you do? Okay, lets see what is happing on wall-street? Ooh, wait, lets see what is new on Quora. Or, if you are stupid, you will open your facebook account and then you will turn that 5 minute into 20 minute. Does this problem look familiar to you? If yes, then keep on reading otherwise, don’t waste your time.

Now, the question is, how should I cure my this addiction. This has a name — Internet Masturbation. You will ask me why? The reason is that at the end of that elapsed time, you feel the same. GUILTY. You regret the time wasted and then, somehow, tried to convince yourself that you had good time and cannot do anything. I am having the same issue and have been trying to overcome this habit. I have failed in both of them.

I had that eureka moment few days back which has brought lot changes in my habit. You can try these three points

  1. Produce more than you consume — I mean, if you are going to internet every now and then, — its not a problem. Just promise yourself that the time you are spending on internet, you will produce the same content yourself. For example, if you are spending 3o minute on Quora, write something about all the content you have read. Slowly, you will wean away from your habit.
  2. Try to have the QUIET time — 20 minutes per day when you will not do anything. Got five minutes. Add it to that 2o minutes. You don’t have to use your every minute. This minute will add up. Free time is good time. Just go out and see the plants or see the people. Don’t open the internet.
  3. Find your passion — This is the only sustainable solution. Find what you love and spend your time in thinking about the same.
