Thanks for writing this. I don’t agree with all your points, but it’s well written and overall I like it.

A few points I am totally, 100%, without reservations, with you on:

  • Continuing to support politicians who give tax breaks to the rich is never going to make your life better.
  • Rich people have convinced working class people that unions are bad.
  • Black and Brown people are not the reason you’re poor

Two points of discussion:

I am not sure the super rich ‘don’t fucking care about you’. I think many rich people are empathetic with the difficulties of the poor. It’s just that they prioritize their money over other people’s well being. It seems to me a lot of people share this view, not just the wealthy. Lack of empathy may correlate with wealth, but I don’t think it is a fact. My guess is they are not very strongly correlated.

A minimum wage has unintended side effects. It will reduce low wage jobs. I feel that it is more direct and helpful to simply tax wealth. I’m 100% for progressive taxation. I’m not strongly opposed to a minimum wage, but it won’t do as much for the poor or to alleviate inequality as progressive taxation combined with social supports.

FWIW, the first comment from Adrian seems hyper-partisan. Clearly he has an agenda.

Maybe he’s a bot? He hasn’t published anything on medium before commenting on your post (i wish Medium showed sign up dates). His text is inconsistent. Does he prefer to take money from Koch or Soros ? I can’t tell — the tone says Soros, but the text says Koch.
