A highly impressive AI browser extension — TinaMind

Overview

As AI-assisted tools and platforms become increasingly diverse, choosing a suitable and efficient AI tool is becoming more difficult. In this context, I accidentally discovered a Google Chrome extension called TinaMind. This AI assistant not only offers regular AI chat and search functions but also supports quick summarization of web content and YouTube video highlights, translation, grammar checking, and composing various emails and articles. Its interface is simple and user-friendly, allowing users to get started without additional learning costs. The powerful features make it a one-stop solution for all my daily needs.

Introduction

TinaMind is a powerful Chrome extension that users can easily start using by installing it from the Chrome Web Store and logging in via Google authorization. TinaMind offers a range of practical features, including:

Chat Bot: Allows interaction with more than ten types of files, including web pages, PDFs, Word, PPT, Excel, and code.
AI Search: Helps users access real-time information without visiting multiple web pages, covering news reading, video content, web browsing, academic search, and more.
YouTube Summarization and Subtitle Translation: Quickly generates video highlights and translates subtitles.
Quick Commands: Enables one-click text processing on any web page, improving work efficiency.
Writing, Replying, and Rewriting: Supports composing and editing emails, articles, SEO copy, and more, with customizable tone, length, and other parameters.
Email Writing and Replying: Generates email replies with one click, simplifying communication.
Translation and Grammar Check: Provides accurate translation and grammar checks, with voice generation to enhance learning efficiency.
Prompt Management Tool: Includes over 800 high-quality prompts, seamlessly integrating with platforms like ChatGPT, Claude, and Gemini, allowing users to input prompts with a single click.

These features collectively offer a comprehensive AI-assisted experience to users.

How to Install?

Installation is a two-step process, and you can also visit the TinaMind installation tutorial or the official website https://tinamind.com/ for installation.

Step 1

Go to the Chrome Web Store to install it by clicking the button shown below.

Step 2

Once the installation is complete, open any web page. If the page is already open, refresh it. You will then see the TinaMind quick access icon on the right side of the page. Click the icon to enter the main panel, then select “Sign In” and log in using Google authorization.

Chat Bot

The chatbot is a feature that all AI tools have, but TinaMind’s interaction design allows me to complete all my tasks under this panel, which is fantastic. The main features include chatting and answering questions, reading web pages, document chatting, internet access and search, prompts, and more, which will be introduced one by one below.

Chatting and Answering Questions

TinaMind offers basic AI chatbot functions, where users can directly enter questions in the chat window, and the AI will provide answers immediately. Notably, TinaMind supports switching between different models to perform a variety of tasks, including models from OpenAI, Claude, and Google. However, free users are limited to using Gemini Pro.

Reading Web Pages

If you are browsing a long article or one in a non-native language but don’t have enough time to read or want to get the main points first, you can click the “Read Page” button on the TinaMind chat interface. The AI will quickly summarize the article’s main points and provide several option buttons, including “Read Page,” “Get Explanation,” “Get Key Points,” “Generate Mind Map,” and more.

If you are reading a long paper, you can click the “Continue in Chat” button to get more information.

Chat Document

The document chat feature is ideal for scenarios that require reading and understanding large amounts of documents, especially in academic research and paper writing. This feature supports more than ten types of file formats, including PDFs, Word, PPT, Excel, and code. You just need to open the TinaMind chat panel, upload a local file, and start interacting with the document.

The system will generate a document summary within seconds, and you can further ask questions related to the document.

Internet Access and Search

AI models usually have a knowledge cut-off date, so accessing real-time information requires internet capability. TinaMind provides this function and performs excellently. It supports searching web pages, news, videos, academic content, and even reading URLs directly, making it very convenient as I can view content without opening the web page. Next, I will demonstrate how to search for news on “2030 World population growth trends.”

First, I click the “Add Skill” button and enable the “Read News” skill. Then, I enter “2030 World population growth trends” in the input box. TinaMind searches the web for relevant data and generates a response, providing data sources for reference.

Afterward, TinaMind offers several related news links, but I don’t want to open each one individually, so I enable the “Read URL” skill, allowing TinaMind to help me read the first news link. I enter “summarize https://populationmatters.org/news/2024/07/the-road-to-10-billion-world-population-projections-2024/” in the input box. TinaMind does an excellent job summarizing the page.

The academic search feature is also outstanding, helping me quickly find a large number of academic references. I first use the academic search to find the most relevant literature, then download the documents and use the document chat feature to help me read them, greatly improving my learning efficiency.

AI Search

The AI search differs from the search in the chat interface by offering more detailed parameter settings and a deeper search experience. It supports configuring search scope, limiting sites or domains, search language, and time parameters.

Continuing with the search for news on “2030 World population growth trends,” when I enter “2030 World population growth trends,” TinaMind searches the pages and then answers the question.

TinaMind also provides news sources and related questions, and it can continue chatting based on the currently retrieved data.

YouTube Summarization and Subtitle Translation

The YouTube summarization feature can enhance your video-watching efficiency. When you want to know the content of a video in the shortest time, you have two options:

Directly click the TinaMind chat interface on the YouTube video page and press the Read Page button to help summarize the video content.
If you want a more detailed summary, you can use the YouTube sidebar summary feature. Click the summary button, and TinaMind will summarize the video content and provide key video points. Clicking on the video key points button can also take you to the corresponding position in the video.

TinaMind also provides a subtitle translation feature, allowing you to learn while watching the video. Clicking on the corresponding subtitle can also jump to the corresponding video position.

Writing

If you don’t know where to start when writing or drafting a letter, you can use TinaMind’s writing function. Just provide the topic you want to write about, and you can customize the article length (short, medium, long), select content format (such as email, article, idea, outline, information, etc.), and even customize the tone, such as professional, literary, creative, educational, humorous, authoritative, or serious.

If you are not satisfied with the written text, you can use the Rewrite feature to rewrite it, choosing from the provided quick rewrite methods or customizing your rewrite method.

If your daily work requires responding to many comments or messages, the Reply feature is definitely your top choice.

Translation

TinaMind’s translation feature is very practical, greatly assisting me in reading and learning other languages. The translation function supports setting text format, translation length, tone, and translation language, currently supporting dozens of different languages.

Additionally, if you are concerned about grammar issues in the text, you can use TinaMind’s grammar check function to easily complete grammar checks without installing other tools, providing an all-in-one solution to all problems.

TinaMind also features text-to-speech and speech-to-text functions, allowing you to download voice files for repeated listening, making it very suitable for language learning. If you want to adjust the AI voice, TinaMind also offers 5 different male and female voice options for you to choose from.

Prompt Manager

Before finding TinaMind, to improve my efficiency, I organized many prompts and recorded them in a spreadsheet. When I needed to use them, I would copy them to ChatGPT and modify the text. This used to seem reasonable, but everything changed when I discovered TinaMind’s prompt management tool. TinaMind’s prompt management tool is simply amazing.

TinaMind has over 800 built-in prompts, with quick access in the TinaMind chat interface, ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, and more. After clicking the entry, the prompt panel pops up, allowing you to select a prompt, input relevant configurations, and finally insert it into the chat input box.

I then migrated all my prompts to TinaMind. TinaMind supports variable input, allowing you to set the text that needs to be changed in your prompt as a variable wrapped in {{}}. The next time you use the prompt, you only need to enter the variable’s value, greatly solving my problem. Previously, I manually modified the values in the prompt template, but now it seems that the original method was far too inefficient.
