using the k40 laser to better effect

This is my scratchpad of tribal wisdom about this software and its more useful features.

Click on the item you want to cut, and click Output > Output To Machine

Good Default Settings

The notable information in this screenshot are the values for engrave, cut, and normal (which is the speed the cutter uses to rapid to another position). Circumstances can dictate slower speeds, but these are my max speed settings.

Click SaveOption. Now your default settings will not damage the machine.

Let’s go a little further and get a more reliable experience.

Click Engrave under Output Type.

Be sure TopTo is set on this menu. If LeftTo or RightTo is set, then the cutter will rely on the very slow Y-axis motor, and you will damage your belts when the eventual grinding happens.

Do NOT use LeftTo or RightTo.

Click SaveOption. Now your default settings will not damage the machine.

Click NormalOption

Make sure Closed is unchecked. If it is checked, your paths will automatically close, which is awful if you don’t want that to happen.

RouteOptimize seems to order the cuts from smallest to largest. I have not investigated this and other features very far.

Multiple Passes

From the NormalOption Click Loop and set the number of passes you want to run.
