The dangers of IoT security arrive from many different angles, especially with the huge increase in integrational capabilities of IoT platforms . Due to this we even with the progress we have made we are facing a lot of problems. This is why we need to buff up and bolster IoT platform security.

We need to get our consumers to educated, and for that we need to birth regulatory bodies and make sure they are up to their job efficiently. Moreover, manufacturers need to perform their job with greater insight and responsibility and realize they need to come up with devices and software with better defense mechanism.

Right now the main IoT platform creators are focusing their efforts towards building better IoT devices, but there are only a few that are focusing on creating software that will improve the security of IoT platforms. This lack of attention when it comes to building IoT platforms and IoT security was the reason behind the terrible October 2016 attack, when a big assault through the internet wreaked havoc in the United States and Europe as a huge 1.2 Tbps DDoS assault hit Dyn.

The architects of this malware were found out to be a security internet firm originating from the United States. and going by the name of Flashpoint. It was the malware created by them that single handedly caused perhaps the most damages yet seen by an online attack as it shot down portals and created blackout for businesses such as PayPal, Amazon, Twitter, Netflix, etc.

The originating source of the malware was identified as Mirai. Experts call it a kind of malware that works by interfacing and linking itself with a huge number of IP-related devices to launch an attack. There are diverse and huge applications of IoT platforms is amazing. It is amazing and a dream to imagine what a breakthrough in IoT platform can do but it is dreary to image what a break in through IoT platform security can unleash and the kind of disasters in can perform.

IoT platform’s development has been a problem. It has widely been labelled as the Achilles heel for many big businesses and that is because little attention has been paid towards IoT software development. In today’s world protecting the market is the primary concern of all businesses, because such attacks can leave a lasting and damaging image and thus will cause businesses to lose customers.

The people who created this malware to upset the balance of IoT platform security will probably be never find the punishment they deserve. They possibly might even evade monetary fines since cybercrime although reprimanded can be a difficult case to create against someone.

However, at the end of the day we have to guard ourselves from all kinds of threats and when it comes to protection the best kind of protection is defense and evasion. Luckily since last the last couple of years the attention towards IoT platform security has increased tenfold. Henceforth, we can expect good software development and better safer platforms in the future.

Right now the main IoT platform creators are focusing their efforts towards building better IoT devices, but there are only a few that are focusing on creating software that will improve the security of IoT platforms.
