Benson’s views, well documented in Prince’s brilliant biography of President McKay, were extreme even for his time. He claimed that Eisenhower was a knowing tool of the communists, a statement that upset and confused Eisenhower. He declared in the Logan tabernacle that the U.S. government had been so infiltrated by communists that the only reasonable response was its armed overthrow. He was irrational.
