If you’re tracking diversity, be it by age, sex, race, religion, whatever, you’re wasting your energy, and probably defeating your purpose. Yes, I don’t want companies blocking people on the basis of some grouping by characteristics they can’t control. But no, keeping track of it won’t fix anything. Ever. Keeping track only serves to highlight the artificial differences. Companies that value their mission already know this. They hire people who will help their mission, regardless of artificial distinctions. Companies that value artificial distinctions over their mission will fail at their mission. Nothing can be done about it. So stop trying.
