Its always dangerous to mention the Second Amendment when talking about guns. So many believe that it grants a right to we the people. It does not. It recognizes an existing right, says that it shall not be infringed by government legislation, and gives one important reason why.

Unfortunately, when lawyers get ahold of it, strong, clear language gets corrupted. “Congress shall make no law.” “Shall not be infringed.” Strong language. No wiggle room whatsoever. Meaningless to legislators and the courts.

Good thing the Constitution doesn’t apply to me. I never agreed to it. Hence I am not bound by it. Fnord. But every congress critter, every president, every judge, every cop solemnly swears to uphold and defend it. And then they don’t.
