The Atlanta Declaration
One of my favorite gun rights quotes, since I discovered it many years ago, begins The Atlanta Declaration, a speech given by L. Neil Smith at the Future of Freedom Conference, in Culver City, California, in November of 1987. This to me is the true meaning of the Second Amendment to the Constitution for the United States of America:
Every man, woman, and responsible child has an unalienable individual, civil, Constitutional, and human right to obtain, own, and carry, openly or concealed, any weapon — rifle, shotgun, handgun, machinegun, ANYTHING— any time, any place, without asking anyone’s permission.
— L. Neil Smith
Neil also reminds us that there is no substitute for carrying your own personal defensive tools:
I was a limited statist when I began, and often wrote about the wonders of private security. However like going to the bathroom, breathing, eating, sleeping, or making love, it turns out that self-defense is a bodily function one cannot safely or effectively delegate to a second party.

Lux Lucre made a nice Flash animation, which I recorded and uploaded to YouTube:
