In a sea of “Summer Sequels” is Incredibles 2 a standout?

Starring Criag T Nelson, Holly Hunter, Sophia Bush and Brad Bird

Written by Brad Bird

Directed by Brad Bird

Plot:

Starting where the first film left off a boy at school sees violet with her mask off during the battle with the Underminer. He is then mindwiped and the film continues with the opening of the Incredibles versus thUnderminer. The Incredibles sadly lose and are arrested because Superheroes are illegal. The Parr family live out their days in a hotel until Winston and Evelyn Deavor offer them a job. A job to bring good press to superheroes. How? You might ask. The Deavor’s plan to attach cameras to the suits of each super and show that all they do is for the benefit of society. However, due to the need for damage control Elastigirl must pioneer this mission alone. This leaves Mr Incredible/Bob to play single father for his three children. From there the movie goes from action packed to heartfelt seamlessly.

Characters:

All the original characters are back and better than ever. Jack Jack returns in a much larger role which is the center of the comedic aspect of Incredibles 2. Eli Fucile voices jack jack while Brad Bird voices Jack Jacks’ monster form and Edna mode. Both characters being the most unforgettable parts of the film. Then we have Holly Hunter as Elastigirl who is 110% the main focus of this movie. A majority of her scenes make her standout from the rest of the Incredibles but the first mission in which Elastigirl must chase down something with her new motorcycle is one of the most exciting chase scenes I’ve seen in awhile. Also back is Craig T Nelson as Bob Parr, Sarah Vowell and Huck Milner and Violet and Dash Parr and Samuel L Jackson as Frozone.

Not much about this characters is expanded upon but to be honest this is good thing because after 14 years no one wants to see a character they love come back completely different. As far as new additions to the cast there is Sophia Bush as Voyd and Bob Odenkirk and Catherine Keener as Winston and Evelyn Deavor. Voyd is one of the many superheroes who come out of hiding after the Incredibles make their debut. While the Deavor’s are the Founders of the mission to make superheroes legal again. While Voyd doesn’t have much of a role the Deavor’s offer a interesting dynamic similar to that of Syndrome and his assistant except this time they are the good guys and siblings.

Trailer :

I truthfully did not want to watch many trailers for Incredibles 2 however the trailer doesn’t seem to give too much away and there is quite a few entertaining subplots throughout the film that are worth watching that are definitely not shown in the trailer.

Overall:

In summary this movie was awesome. The plot was clean and despite a bit of recycling from the first Incredibles this movie provides new and better content for fans of pixar and the Incredibles. It is also a nice break from the very serious tone of many of the sequels coming into the cinemas lately and while there’s a sense of danger in this film it is handled delicately and contrasted with great humor.
