Enormous Weaponised Robots to replace Trident, according to Sources

The newly installed Labour government has announced a controversial policy, scrapping Trident mid-way through it’s replacement program and instead directing the funds towards a series of enormous transforming robots.

Secretary of state for Defense, Emily Thornberry, is said to have briefed colleagues on the capabilities of the titantic mechanoids, to be built in Barrow-on-Furness. A longstanding review, due to be published shortly, will recommend investing in the alternative deterrents- which are said to be fitted with giant laserswords and rail guns.

‘It was quite bizarre’, said a cabinet source, ‘we were all prepared for a big announcement but it was a surprise to see anthropormphic vehicles the size of skyscrapers. I’m sure this will be a huge benefit to the local community’.

Prime Minister Jeremy Corbyn has been teasing a revelation for weeks, dropping hints at PMQ’s about ‘a major breakthrough in peacekeeping technology- a forward thinking, progressive solution to intercontinental struggle and conflicts’.

Leaked documents show that the Robots, which can be piloted remotely or flown by specially trained children with traumatic pasts and social issues, may also be fitted for space flight. This is in line with the Chancellor’s recent comments on the importance of fending off alien invasions.

Opposition leader Jeremy Hunt has responded cautiously to the rumours, claiming that ‘the execution will be more interesting than the proposal itself’.

UPDATE: According to sources, it has also been revealed that the government plans to share ownership of the Robots with the french.
