Freedom and Responsibility
umair haque

Thank you Umair for sharing your observations. I enjoy reading them.

Perhaps it is only when I am actually free (of the conditioned reflexes, of my upbringing, my ‘values’ etc.) do I have the ability to respond appropriately. And isn’t that what responsibility is (response — ability) ?

So perhaps modernity has freedom, which is not the right to follow my desires endlessly, and responsibility, which is not being held accountable for bad consequences endlessly, poorly understood. And so there is possibly a way out of the contradiction.
