Tent revival
It was some time after I came home from the hospital. The coma left me unaware of some things and religion was one.
I remember my mom offering to take me to this tent meeting with a preacher named Billy Burke and he had his whole crew that traveled with a big tent.
The field they pitched the tent in was across the street from the house I woke up in that morning so I didn’t have far to go to meet my mom.
It was like you see on T.V. Holy Roller Evangelic preaching and people being healed and shit. I was pretty hung over but I sat through it, for her.
Everyone is done and leaving. My mom tells me to wait here.
She bring this tall skinny black woman over and tells me she’s Jackie.
Then I’m sitting in the center if the whole fellowship/ freak-show and they are praying for me, first Billy Burke then he asks Jackie to get involved and the preaching gets louder and I here “Be gone demons of alcohol. Be gone demons of sex. Begone demons of drugs. More hands and more bodies crowd in around me, more demons preached at.
Louder, the hands pressing harder, and I want to feel something, anything…
But no, Just people pushing on me.
I pull myself out of the huddle, look at mom, and said, okay, I’m ready to go.
So embarrassing. I’m glad we were alone and I’m glad they moved on….
Billy Burke is a fraud.
It was like this.
