Green Houses with straw bales

The house of straw tale of the three little pigs succumbed to a snort wolf, but currently this is not the case, so that the construction of thatched houses is one of the leading and most widely used construction techniques used in the Bioconstruction to build sustainable housing.

Building straw houses is not new, in fact there are century-old houses built with this technique both in America and in Europe. In the old continent perhaps the best known is the “Maison Feuillette” which was built in 1921 by engineer Feuillette which takes its name.

In Mallorca various companies and architects have chosen this technique to build sustainable homes. Perhaps the best known company is Construccions Ferrys, the company creates a houses with a wooden frame structure and straw bales.

Oddly enough such homes are fire resistant and very energy efficient, making them ideal for sustainable projects.

There are currently several projects focused on this type of construction of passive houses, one of the most popular and active in Spain is the Larixhaus project.
