Project GhumGham

Ghumgham is a travel utility to app for Nepal to help you reach your destination easily by helping you find public vehicle routes, new places to go to and reserve vehicles if you are going outside Kathmandu valley.

This winter we decided to do something big. We are working crazily on this awesome app; GhumGham. GhumGham is a travel utility app to help you make your travel easier. It helps you to find a public vehicle to go to your destination, find new places to go to and even reserve vehicles if you are going outside valley.

Why a travel utility app in Nepal?

Well how often have you realised a need to ask others to find out a way to go to places you have never gone before. And how often is their explantation difficult to interpret? Asking others for help during such situations can be tricky. You might end up using a wrong route or asking more than 4 people. Lets take another case. I always go to Ratnapark from Imadol, Gwarko and Maitighar because, well, everyone goes that way. But there is other option too from Haittiban. Could it be shorter, or easier to get seats, I will never know! GhumGham is perfect utility in such cases. It shows you possible public vehicles you can use, how long it would take and how much it would cost. 
 GhumGham also shows you the best route you can use to reach your destination. In other words, GhumGham helps you plan your route so that you don’t have to ask people or call your friend. Your friend might not know but GhumGham does.

Lets see another use case of GhumGham; the difficulty of finding right place to go for instance eating momo. How difficult it could be to find a good momo place? It is easy of course in your locality. But how about new places. It would be nightmare. Once my friend was charge Rs. 250 for a plate of momo and there were 8 small pieces on a plate! He asked “What the hell with these 8 momos” and the waiter replied “Well our plate only has 8 momos!”. He never realised before that a plate was not a SI unit! That’s when the need of GhumGham comes in. When going out with friend, you don’t want to end of eating yet another ordinary momo. So you could open GhumGham app, browse best momos near you and have a good time. But how will we recommend you best momo. No, we are not going to eat momo in every shops in Kathmandu. Imagine how many bad momo we will have to eat! Instead we will give that power to you guys. You rate the momos of the place you go and it will help others make a good decision.

Route finder

It is the core engine of this app. We have spend quite a lot geeky hours building and polishing this engine. Route finder helps you find every possible route from source to destination. You can choose how you want to go; by bus or probably tempo. You can browse routes by public transport, private vehicle or your cool cycle. It even shows you shortest walking route. It will also calculates expenditure, time it will take to reach destination and shortest route for you.

Discover

I want to go to watch movie today. But which hall is good for me? Discover feature recommends places for you. You can do a little research, read others review and decide where you want to go. There is no limitation on discovering new places. Either you are searching for places you want to get haircut from or restaurants where you can have little privacy with your date. Possibilities are limitless.

Reservation

While you can search for a tempo we recommend, you won’t possibly search for a bus to go to Biratnagar. So we also provide a reservation service for long distance travel. You can check prices between AC buses or Deluxe buses and also get discounts and offers! Going in a group? Not a problem! We will also be providing micro/bus reservation service so that you and your friends could go together and have fun! Yay!

UI/UX

GhumGham is build for Android smartphones at this moment. We are also releasing web app with this so that you can run it on every devices. Currently we have completed out app till route finder and other parts are under rapid development. UI is developed following material design guidelines so you won’t find the interface foreign. App is completely designed keeping users in mind.

Performance

Performance is utmost priority. You won’t obviously spend 10 minutes finding which bus to use. So we have made special effort on performance of this app. We also care about your mobile data and how stingy NCELL and Namaste can get on cutting your balance. So data usage has been reduced as much as possible while you are not using WiFi.
