3 Simple Tricks To Help You Rock That Job Interview

There aren’t many events that cause as much anxiety as a job interview, especially if you’re between the ages of 19 and 35. In a world where the cost of living is increasing exponentially, there is so much on the line when it comes to obtaining gainful employment, not to mention the pressures of having to sell yourself in a way that is confident and self-assured but not too glib or cocky. These tips will do wonders for your job interview prep, from handling interview questions to finding a state of calm control. Let’s rock this bi*ch, shall we?

Tip 1: Get a good night’s sleep.

I cannot stress this enough. There’s nothing worse than having anxiety about tomorrow’s job interview right before bed. If you’re like me, then you might end up having weird dreams where you show up and don’t know what you’re applying for or why you decided to wear footie pajamas.

The night before your interview should be spent in a state of total relaxation. Go to bed at a reasonable time (no all-night YouTube binges), use a sleep enhancer like the feelCBD Sleep Drops or Westcoast Dream CBD Tincture, and think about all of the reasons you deserve this win. You know who you are and what you’re capable of, so let your interviewer see that strength and confidence.

Tip 2. Understand the job that you are applying for, and be ready for certain talking points.

If your interviewer asks you what you think about their website, or how you could improve a certain aspect of the company, the worst thing you could say is “Umm… I dunno” or “nothing at all”. This question is loaded, and it is hardly ever asked in the hopes that you will say everything is perfect. Your interviewer wants to know how you will be an asset to the company, and how you can use your particular set of skills to improve upon the status quo.

At least 1–2 days before your interview, take some time to look into the company you are applying for. Check out their site, their social media, sign up for their newsletters, read up on their history– anything you can do to walk in with fresh ideas and a meaningful take on the biz.

Tip 3: Think of your interview as a meeting and the Q&A like a conversation.

My mind associates “job interview” with being judged or scrutinized by a powerful stranger. This is where a lot of the interview anxiety that so many people deal with comes in. At the end of the day, we all just want to feel comfortable in our own skin, competent in our abilities and excited about the day ahead.

One way you can ease your pre-interview anxieties is by thinking of the experience as though you are meeting a like-minded professional and you are going to have a conversation about a topic that mutually interests you. That’s not even a lie, because at the end of the day that is really what you are doing!

If you’re interviewing for a job in fashion, it is likely because you care about style, individuality and the latest trends. If you are interviewing for a tech company, you probably know a thing or two about coding, web page design or how to properly use Google Analytics to enhance your brand’s visibility. THESE. ARE. THE. THINGS. YOU. NEED. TO. SHARE. Talking about something you enjoy and are knowledgeable about is a great way to feel calm and confident during your conversation.
