“ Blue is the warmest color”
Are you strong enough to watch it?
Why is it that I waited anxiously for months for the film “ Blue Is The Warmest Color” to come to US after it won Palme D’ Or last year and when it came, I drove almost 2 hours during rush hour from Leesburg to Bethesda to see it but now that it is available at Netflix Streaming, I cannot bring myself to watch it again?
Is it the lack of willingness or courage? Is it the unattractiveness of easy availability and readiness? It is just there waiting for me, just a push a button away from me and yet I don’t want it. One might compare this with Hugh Grant being caught in a cab in London with a really ugly prostitute when he was with Liz Hurley at the time.
Nah, it is more than that. I just don’t have the strength to watch it again. Watching a film like “ Blue…” requires a stamina that only an Everest climber might have. Are you ready for it? Are you strong enough? Are you emotionally available? It messed me up for days and weeks afterwards, it stirred so many emnotions in me and I am still not ready to see it again.
Let me just conclude by adding that “Blue.. “ is the one and only film which you can watch without ,if you are a man, being aroused or sexually stimulated or if you are a woman, being grossed out, even though there is literally a 15 minutes of non-stop, full-on sex scene of two beautiful girls. Only a true a master of cinema can achieve HIGH ART by scenes that, in my mind, comes very close to pornography.
