Alternatively, we could reduce the amount that people work, letting people work 20 percent less (i.e. destroy Monday). This would employ the same amount of the workforce, spreading the benefits wider through fewer hours.

Let me add another choice here: give workers the option to choose their own three days they want to rest. This way the economy would keep chugging in a 7-day cycle, while keeping about a third of the work force resting on any given day. “The weekend” is a concept whose time to end is probably coming close.
