On the second day there were two matches played one of them was between Delhi Capitals(DC) led by Rishabh Pant and Mumbai Indians(MI) led by Rohit Sharma at Brabourne Stadium, Mumbai.

Captains with the trophy

If we talk about toss DC won it and chose to bowl leaving MI to bat in the first innings. In the first innings we see a stable partnership of Rohit Sharma and Ishan Kishan till the departure of Rohit Sharma in the 9th over by Kuldeep Yadav. Anmolpreet Singh and Keiron Pollard were also departed by Kuldeep Yadav. Khaleel Ahmed also took the wickets of former Ranji player Tilak Varma and Singaporean-Australian cricketer Tim David.

In the second innings Tim Seifert and Prithvi Shaw opened for DC which did’nt complete powerplay overs as Tim Seifert was departed by the Tamil Nadu player Murugan Ashwin and the bowler took another wicket of Mandeep Singh in that very over. Basil Thampi also took two wickets in the 10th over of Prithvi Shaw and Rovman Powell, but in the death overs partnership of Axar Patel and Lalit Yadav was crucial for the victory of DC by 4 wickets.

If we look upon the runs progression for both the teams we can see a stable batting of MI in powerplay overs and there is a considerable gap between wickets fallen in the middle and death overs making a total of 177 runs to chase for DC. On the other hand DC was in a great pressure in the powerplay overs itself with the fall of 3 wickets and in middle overs as well there were 2 wickets fallen at a very small gap, but they played really well in the death overs by rotating the strikes and ensuring no fall of wickets. The consistency of DC in the death overs were the key to their victory.

Note: The analysis is solely number based. Climatic and pitch conditions are not taken into consideration.
