Counter-argument : The emergence of AI into our lives won’t make all jobs the same but would just change the jobs we do, which again will diversify our competencies, and the system of meritocracy that you are talking about will always be there.
Take for example during the beginning of the great Industrial Age there were similar arguments saying machines will eat away our jobs, and humans would become lazy and non productive. That did not happen, it’s just that the nature of those blue collar jobs changed, that is all.
