Good Anxiety vs Bad Anxiety: What Makes Me Anxious all the Fucking Time

Everyone has a different experience with their anxiety episodes. They can also range in severity from mild to extreme. The causes for them also vary just as much. Over the last ten years, I have found that my anxiety can be flared by not only negative or scary experiences but also exciting, enjoyable experiences.

Here’s my personal list of triggers for both types.

good anxiety:

  • meeting up with a lover or friend you can’t wait to see
  • hearing my favorite songs that are upbeat or even emotional songs
  • anticipation of sex
  • anticipation of going to a fun or favored place
  • anticipation, period
  • music that has words
  • passionate conversations
  • fucking twitter

bad anxiety:

  • music with words
  • rejection
  • an embarassing experience
  • a shameful experience
  • getting too excited over a situation that was relatively menial
  • offending someone especially a friend
  • getting into an argument or debate with someone
  • calls from people I’m not familiar with or haven’t spoken to in a whil
  • interacting with family
  • perceiving I am not being heard or listened to
  • being ignored (or perception of being ignored)
  • being belittled, rejected or chastised
  • telling me to relax!
  • thinking too much
  • being too lazy
  • the future
  • not finishing something
  • worrying that I’m worrying too much
  • the worry that a task was not completed thoroughly
  • excoriating* (causes and perpetuates anxiety)
  • fucking twitter

note* excoriating (df): the act of picking at the skin or scabs on the skin out of habit usually caused by anxiety or high stress

Hope this list was relatable for all my anxiety filled folks or just folks that have experienced it once and didn’t know it was actually common. Identifying triggers for can cause certain emotions to come to the surface, can help you understand yourself more which can provide peace of mind. Just know you ain’t alone fam. WE ALL be feeling weird as hell sometimes.
